I wrote an entire post on gratitude this week…
If you happen to be in the United States, you understand why: Today is Thanksgiving!
Today we take time to reflect on all the blessings in our lives!
… In the end, I decided to scrap the post. Gratitude is simple, and there’s no reason to complicate it.
Instead, here are a few of my favorite quotes on gratitude – I hope they bless you on this wonderful day.
“On the recollection of so many and great favors and blessings, I now, with a high sense of gratitude, presume to offer up my sincere thanks to the Almighty, the Creator and Preserver.”
– William Bartram
“Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
– Melody Beattie
“We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.”
– Thornton Wilder
“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
– John F. Kennedy
“He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has.”
“Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, and confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”
– Melody Beattie
“Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.”
– Denis Waitley
“I would maintain that thanks are the highest form of thought, and that gratitude is happiness doubled by wonder.”
– G.K. Chesterton
“Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”
– John Milton
“Gratitude is the inward feeling of kindness received. Thankfulness is the natural impulse to express that feeling. Thanksgiving is the following of that impulse.”
– Henry Van Dyke
Today, I’m thankful for my beautiful wife and loving family, a gracious God, a job that pays the bills, and you – the many who humble me by taking time out of your busy lives to stop by this blog. You don’t know how much I appreciate you!
